If this movement gains traction and political support, China would be the only clear winner, reminiscent of how restrictively banning defense plants in WWII would have helped Nazi Germany.

The economic ramifications are profound. In Georgia alone, a ban could jeopardize 552,000 jobs and $850 million in tax revenue. This challenge extends beyond the economy to national security and possibly even freedom.

Myths fuel the ban movement. Contrary to opponents’ claims, new data centers can reduce electricity costs by distributing costs widely. In water usage, many data centers either use no water or far less than perceived, especially compared to entities like golf courses. Economically, data center construction boosts local job markets, increasing construction employment by 11% and raising wages by 3-4%.

Furthermore, AI and its enabling data centers are essential to future economic growth, promising to add trillions to the U.S. economy and contribute up to 3.7% of GDP growth annually.

AI has crucial military applications such as drones and cyber threat detection. It’s crucial for managing intelligence data and enhancing military logistics. The efficiency it brings can streamline defense manufacturing, preparing the U.S. for future challenges.
