Texas Senate Race Heating Up with Fox News Poll Results

The recent Fox News poll has sparked optimism among Texas Democrats in the state’s competitive Senate race. Democratic State Representative James Talarico holds a slight lead over Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. This indicates a potentially tight contest for what was once considered a secure Republican seat.

Democrats have not won a Senate race in Texas for decades, but Talarico’s support is notable among moderates, Black voters, and younger Texans. He has a 6-point lead among the most motivated voters. Other surveys also show Talarico ahead, strengthening his position.

Ken Paxton’s campaign spokesman, Nick Maddux, commented, “The only poll that matters is November 3rd.” He criticized Talarico’s record, calling the campaign a “pipe dream.” Talarico’s spokesperson, JT Ennis, countered by emphasizing Texans’ desire for change and electing leaders who prioritize working people.

Talarico criticized Paxton’s office for not releasing details about a plea deal for attorney Adam Hoffman, involved in a sexual abuse case. Hoffman received reduced charges and a 60-day sentence, avoiding sex offender registration.

Talarico’s campaign targets Paxton’s character. They argue Talarico offers Texans honesty and commitment. Poll results show Talarico leads by a small margin.

According to the survey, Talarico leads Paxton by 51 to 48 percent, within the margin of error. Among highly motivated voters, Talarico holds a stronger lead. Voter concern is more about Paxton’s character than Talarico’s extremism.

Among independents, Talarico has 68 percent support, while Democrats show almost unanimous backing. Paxton retains 89 percent of Republican support. Non-MAGA Republicans give Talarico 24 percent support, and Hispanics favor him 59 to 41 percent.

The poll surveyed 1,006 Texas voters, with a margin of error of 3 percent. Democrats show greater enthusiasm, a crucial factor in midterm elections. High voter engagement can decisively impact electoral outcomes.

Republicans currently have a 53-45 Senate majority. Democrats see Texas as a potential path to the Senate, while Republicans aim to hold the seat. Paxton, endorsed by Donald Trump, faces challenges in uniting the Republican base post-primary against Senator John Cornyn.

Paxton enjoys strong support from men and rural voters. Democrats are excited about potential shifts in voting blocs. Political experts caution that Texas traditionally leans Republican.

Daron Shaw, a Republican pollster, noted the bruising GOP primary contest and emphasized the need for Paxton to appeal to non-MAGA Republicans and independents. Aggressive association of Talarico with the Democratic Party’s far left may be required for Paxton.

If future polls continue showing Talarico ahead, the Texas Senate race might become pivotal in determining U.S. Senate control. This poll suggests Texas could be more competitive than believed.
