Recently, a large group of teenagers on e-bikes caused significant disruption in a busy section of downtown Orlando, Florida. This incident resulted in multiple charges, according to local police. The disturbance happened earlier this month and was described by police as a considerable safety threat and a source of traffic delays for nearby residents.
The Orlando Police Department shared a video on social media featuring the riders obstructing vehicles at intersections and impeding an ambulance with flashing lights. Footage shows police apprehending several riders, captured through bodycam and surveillance videos.
“Reckless riding, running red lights, blocking traffic, and blocking an ambulance and other emergency vehicles from responding puts everyone at risk, including the riders themselves,” the police department stated.
The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring downtown safety by stating, “This type of dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. Orlando Police officers will continue enforcing the law to help keep Downtown safe for everyone.”
In a statement to FOX 35 Orlando, the police mentioned that due to the size and agility of the group, not every rider was captured immediately. Officers prioritized safety while taking enforcement actions. During the chaos, one e-bike rider performed a stunt in the middle of an intersection, directly in front of an ambulance.
The exact number of teens charged in this incident remains unclear at this time.
