Stephen Baldwin Chooses Faith Over Fame

Stephen Baldwin, known for his role in the Oscar-winning film The Usual Suspects, reflects on his career and decision to leave Hollywood. In an interview, Baldwin, 60, shared that although he could have pursued a path to stardom, his priorities shifted towards faith.

“I probably could have pointed myself in the direction of becoming a big star,” Baldwin explained. “But that wasn’t me. I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise, and have to make $100 million at the box office. I’d rather be a schmuck from Massapequa.”

Baldwin’s priorities changed after he embraced born-again Christianity in 2001. He credits a Brazilian housekeeper, who claimed she was sent by God, as the impetus for his faith journey. According to Baldwin, she predicted that he and his wife, Kennya, would become born-again Christians and start their own ministry.

Initially skeptical, Baldwin’s perspective shifted after attending evangelical events with his sister, a born-again Christian. He was inspired by a Christian skateboarding ministry, where the skaters combined extreme sports with evangelism, drawing thousands of spectators.

“They’d skate, stop, pick up a microphone and start preaching evangelistically,” Baldwin recalled. “And like 5,000 kids would be around watching.”

Baldwin eventually produced a skate video with a Christian message titled “Livin’ It,” distributing 10,000 copies in six months. This success led him to leave Hollywood for a new mission, visiting 125 churches over four years.

Baldwin acknowledges his outspoken religious and political views have not always been well-received in Hollywood. Despite supporting President Donald Trump in 2016 and 2024, he focuses on the positive impact he has had through his work.

Now a grandfather, Baldwin enjoys his family life while focusing on faith-filled projects. He produces faith-based films for younger audiences and hosts the podcast “One Bad Movie.” Reflecting on his life, Baldwin feels blessed with his accomplishments and family, stating, “Jesus is my rock. My wife is my anchor.”
