25 minutes ago 0

Stephen A. Smith firmly defended his meeting with former President Donald Trump during an episode of his “Straight Shooter” show. He challenged critics by asking, “What are you doing?” Smith expressed his intent to discuss various issues with Trump, focusing on the effects of quashing DEI initiatives. Smith stated this move discourages corporate CEOs from donating to HBCUs, fearing DEI involvement.

Smith recalled telling Trump that the president’s support was needed to counter this issue. Trump indicated he hadn’t considered this perspective and planned to address it. Smith noted Trump called him for follow-up, assuring that he would engage this subject with HBCU officials soon. “I tried, as I always have and always will,” Smith affirmed.

Smith’s White House meeting included comedian Bill Maher and musician Kid Rock on October 15. Addressing critics of his visit, Smith questioned their actions. “Are you doing anything?” he asked, apologizing for his language but emphasizing the necessity of speaking frankly.

Smith criticized comedian D.L. Hughley for questioning why Trump was comfortable with him. Hughley asked on a podcast why people with disdain felt at ease with Smith.

“It’s about what actions are being taken in our community,” Smith responded. He expressed frustration with those who complain instead of acting.

Smith also addressed his meeting with Trump on “The View.” Co-host Sunny Hostin asked if Smith believed the meeting was productive, given Trump’s history of racial bias. Smith replied, “I don’t know. We’ll find out, but he’s the president, so I have to try.” Smith asserted the importance of engaging with the president for community benefit.

Contributing to the conversation, Fox News contributor Joe Concha commended Smith and others for engaging in debates with differing viewpoints. He criticized the practice of shutting down discussions through censorship.
