A Southwest Airlines plane experienced an unexpected incident during boarding on Sunday when a ground equipment vehicle collided with it. The event took place at Memphis International Airport in Tennessee, according to a spokesperson for the airline who spoke to Fox News Digital.
Following the incident, Flight 4013 was removed from service. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
“Southwest Flight 4013 was contacted by a ground equipment vehicle during boarding today at Memphis International Airport,” stated the airline representative.
The Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority issued a statement confirming the occurrence, labeling it an isolated incident.
“Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority can confirm that an isolated incident occurred today at Memphis International Airport,” the statement read.
Despite the disruption, passengers were redirected to a different aircraft to continue their journey. This alternate plane was set to operate the route to Dallas. However, the company’s website indicated Flight 4013 would resume service to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
Passengers ultimately departed Memphis nearly four hours later than scheduled, with the flight expected to arrive at approximately 5:30 p.m., as opposed to the planned 1:50 p.m.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with Southwest Airlines emphasizing the importance of safety for both customers and employees.
“The event will be investigated through our comprehensive Safety Management System,” stated the airline.
“Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees,” the spokesperson added.
