Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at a large party in Morgan Hill on Saturday. The incident resulted in one fatality and injuries to seven others, according to authorities.
Deputies received complaints about disturbances around 10:15 p.m., involving intoxicated individuals and a person throwing bottles at vehicles. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a chaotic scene with over 300 people fleeing after gunshots were fired, stated Brooks Jarosz from the County of Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office.
Several individuals suffered gunshot wounds and needed medical treatment. Tragically, one person was declared dead at the site of the shooting. No suspects have been taken into custody at this time.
“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” Sheriff Robert Jonsen expressed. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.”
Authorities have referred to the event as an “unsanctioned party” that was promoted via social media channels. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to gather more information and identify potential suspects.
