Law enforcement gathered outside Wilmington Hospital as they addressed the aftermath of the incident. Mayor John Carney noted that hospital staff had barricaded themselves in rooms while law enforcement cleared the premises. He expressed sorrow over the tragic day for the city.
Governor Matt Meyer revealed that his wife, Dr. Lauren Meyer, was present at the hospital for work during the attack. He praised the hospital staff, describing them as ‘heroes involved in life-saving efforts.’
