San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York faced legal troubles following his arrest in Ohio over the weekend. York was taken into custody in East Palestine, Ohio, and subsequently released upon posting a $5,000 bond. On Monday, he entered a no contest plea to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. As a result, he was sentenced to one day in jail, a sentence he had effectively already served, and was fined $1,150.
Court documents originally listed charges of engaging in prostitution. These were revised by prosecutors to disorderly conduct. The plea agreement included the return of York’s cellphone and directed $160, initially seized from him, to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. York also completed an online educational course as part of the agreement.
The San Francisco 49ers and the NFL have not provided comments regarding this incident.
York took control of the team’s daily operations from his parents in 2008 and became the principal owner in 2024. Despite initial setbacks under his leadership, the team improved dramatically following the appointments of coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017. Under York, the 49ers reached the Super Bowl three times, facing defeats in the 2012, 2019, and 2023 seasons.
York also played a key role in the development of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, facilitating the team’s move from San Francisco in 2014. The venue has hosted notable events including two Super Bowls, a World Cup, and a College Football Playoff championship game.
