Renewed Russian Strikes on Kyiv After Envoy Talks

Early Tuesday morning, Russian airstrikes hit Kyiv, leading to the deaths of at least two individuals, according to city officials. This comes after a visit by U.S. envoys representing President Trump, who traveled to both Russia and Ukraine to hold discussions with their leaders.

Before the strikes resumed, a temporary pause in hostilities had been agreed upon by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The pause allowed Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and special envoy Steve Witkoff to conduct separate discussions with both leaders.

Russia’s state agency TASS reported that airstrikes were renewed on Tuesday morning, ending the brief cessation of violence. Loud explosions were heard throughout Kyiv, leaving at least two people dead and seven others injured. Buildings were damaged, including a five-story apartment block in the Solomianskyi district. Several vehicles caught fire in the Podilskyi district, noted the city’s authorities. Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that some residents were trapped in a residential building.

In response to the strikes, Poland’s air force announced it was conducting preventive operations related to Russia’s attacks, leading to flight suspensions at Lublin Airport.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner described the talks in Kyiv as “meaningful and encouraging.” Their visit aimed to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict, which has lasted over four-and-a-half years. Witkoff expressed optimism but acknowledged that resolving the conflict would require compromises from both Russia and Ukraine.

A senior Ukrainian official, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed discussions on surviving the upcoming winter and possible measures to be taken before winter sets in.

Before departing for Moscow, President Trump stated that his envoys carried a proposal for peace to the region. He hinted at the potential for a successful resolution, though specifics were not provided.

Following the discussions, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov recognized the United States’ extensive preparations for the trip. He mentioned that the Americans had proposed several ideas for potential conflict resolutions but did not elaborate on the details.
