President Trump Discusses Vandalism at Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

2 hours ago 0

President Donald Trump has commented on the condition of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, describing it as “perfect” despite recent vandalism incidents. During the kickoff event for America’s 250th anniversary celebrations in Washington, D.C., Trump addressed the audience regarding the vandalism of the Reflecting Pool.

Trump expressed concern over the acts committed by individuals he referred to as “thugs” and “bad people.” Despite the damage, he stated he recently observed the pool and found it to be in good condition. “The Reflecting Pool that you’ve heard so much about, which is so incredible, has been gruesomely vandalized,” Trump noted. He assured his supporters that the damage would be repaired, restoring the pool to its former state.

Trump explained that various vandals had attacked the site and promised that efforts to fix the damage were underway. “In fact, I looked at it a little while ago. It looks perfect already. But we’re fixing it. The vandals got to it. They’ve largely been caught and are being prosecuted,” Trump said.

The president’s comments occur in the context of growing scrutiny over issues such as algae blooms affecting the Reflecting Pool, which officials attribute to acts of vandalism. Trump alleged vandalism using chemicals and the cutting of a 350-foot gash in the lining of the pool. He shared on Truth Social that the pool has a hard rubber surface with no paint, which vandals damaged.

Security measures around the Reflecting Pool have recently increased, with fencing erected in certain areas. The Interior Department informed Newsweek that the barriers were initially planned for the Independence Day celebrations, but due to increased vandalism, they were installed earlier.

The claims of vandalism are still under review, as public evidence supporting the allegations has not yet been released. Trump’s comments coincided with the official start of preparations for the nation’s 250th birthday, during which he emphasized the administration’s efforts to beautify the nation’s capital.

On the other side, Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut is challenging the Trump administration and contractors about the Reflecting Pool renovation. Blumenthal raised issues regarding contracts with firms allegedly linked to Trump and questioned the contractors’ qualifications.

Blumenthal expressed dissatisfaction with the work completed by Greenwater Services, which allowed for the reappearance of algae blooms. “The apparently flawed work undertaken by Greenwater has failed to prevent algae blooms from immediately recurring in the Reflecting Pool,” he wrote in a letter to John J. Cafaro and Greenwater Services CEO Al George.

This story continues to evolve, and more information is expected.
