The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying several men suspected of assaulting a San Antonio Spurs fan following a loss by the New York Knicks on Monday. Photos of the suspected individuals have been released by the police.
The altercation took place outside a watch party for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Bryant Park in New York City on June 8, 2026. Due to heightened security measures for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s attendance, a planned NBA Finals watch party near Madison Square Garden was canceled. Fans were advised to arrive early for the game.
The victim, a 39-year-old male, was attacked as he was walking to his hotel at approximately 12:17 a.m. The suspects allegedly assaulted him by throwing punches, kicking him, and tearing off his Spurs jersey. They then fled the scene on foot. The injured man was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and is expected to recover.
The NYPD has provided photos as part of their ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, another incident following the Knicks’ loss involved unruly fans in Manhattan. Police reported that disappointed fans exhibited reckless behavior by climbing street poles, throwing objects at officers, and removing street signs.
The unrest occurred a few blocks from Madison Square Garden, although the area surrounding the venue was restricted due to the President’s presence. Eight individuals were arrested; among them, two faced charges for assaulting an officer, and 13 received criminal court summonses.
