Paul Pelosi Faces Misdemeanor Hit-and-Run Charge

4 weeks ago 0

Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run in Napa County, California. Authorities reported that he struck a parked vehicle and drove away before his car became disabled.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident occurred in Yountville, located north of San Francisco. Witnesses reported seeing a brown convertible hit a parked vehicle and continue driving. Deputies later discovered the damaged convertible, partially blocking the road, and identified the driver as Paul Pelosi, age 86.

During the investigation, Pelosi allegedly admitted to deputies that he was aware of hitting something but was unsure of the object’s identity. He continued driving until his vehicle could no longer function.

“The investigation also determined that no alcohol (.00 on Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device) was detected upon testing, therefore Driving Under the Influence was ruled out,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators concluded that Pelosi was responsible for the collision. He was not arrested at the scene; this is typical for this type of misdemeanor. The sheriff’s office intends to refer the case to the Napa County District Attorney for potential prosecution.

Additionally, a driver re-evaluation referral to the California DMV will be submitted, a standard procedure for elderly drivers.

This incident follows Pelosi’s guilty plea to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury in May 2022, also in Napa County. The previous case led to a sentence of three years probation, five days in jail, a DUI education program, installation of an ignition interlock device, and various fines and restitutions.

Paul Pelosi’s public presence has continued since the October 2022 hammer assault at their San Francisco home. The attack by David DePape, who sought out Nancy Pelosi before striking Paul with a hammer, resulted in severe injuries for Paul. DePape was sentenced to life in prison on state charges and a 30-year federal prison term. Nancy Pelosi has been a representative of California’s 11th congressional district in San Francisco for several decades.
