Park Police Seek Public Help in Reflecting Pool Damage Investigation

2 hours ago 0

The U.S. Park Police are asking for public assistance to identify a person involved in damaging the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Police released a video showing the individual near the pool, wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, and carrying a light-colored handbag.

The incident occurred on Friday at around 3:36 p.m., according to officials. It follows previous issues with the Reflecting Pool that stem from former President Donald Trump’s project to resurface the area. The initiative caused peeling paint and an algae infestation, changing the pool’s appearance to swampy green instead of the intended American Flag Blue.

Trump reported that several individuals were arrested and cited for allegedly vandalizing the pool. He described the perpetrators’ actions as sick, mentioning that they likely used sharp tools to damage the pool’s surface.

“These people should go to jail for a long time,” Trump commented, attributing the vandalism to what he called ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’

Repairs are underway, and water will be released from the pool to facilitate the process. Trump speculated that fertilizer and chemicals were illegally added to the water and acid was poured on surrounding grass, causing further damage. The National Park Service is working to remove the algae with vacuums.
