Mike Tomlin’s Surprising Career Shift to NFL Analysis

Mike Tomlin, who served many years as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has taken on a new role as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. He has started his analyst career following the season opener between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

During his commentary, Tomlin shared his thoughts on the upcoming Week 1 game, where the Steelers will play against the visiting Atlanta Falcons. He focused specifically on Tua Tagovailoa, the newly appointed starting quarterback for the Falcons.

It’s less about Aaron [Rodgers] for me, and it’s more about the quarterback on the other side [Tua Tagovailoa]. His last visit to Pittsburgh didn’t go well. I was in the stadium that day. They lost. He got benched, Tomlin stated.

During Tagovailoa’s previous game in Pittsburgh, which occurred in Week 15 of last year, his team faced a 28-15 defeat against the Steelers. Despite throwing for 253 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception, he was benched for the season’s final three games. Quinn Ewers replaced him as the quarterback for the Miami team.

Recognizing his own performance issues, Tagovailoa has reflected on his past mistakes. He views his current opportunity with the Falcons as a fresh start. Speaking to YahooSports, he said, It’s not something that I take for granted. There’s a lot of things I think I could have done better. Turned the ball over, could have played better. My decision making … in terms of last year just wasn’t good.

The game between the Falcons and the Steelers is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
