Iran Responds to Imminent US Sanctions

Iran warned against the expansion of US sanctions, stressing that these measures will not lead to regional peace. Esmail Baghaei, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stated that Tehran is prepared to retaliate. “Any escalation of this situation will undoubtedly bring about consequences,” he said, underlining that Iran considers any support for the sanctions as an “act of war.”

These new sanctions arise amid ongoing tensions. The United States continues to block Iran’s access to the Strait of Hormuz. Iran demands that the US lift its naval blockade, withdraw forces, and provide reparations. Despite sanctions historically affecting Iran’s economy, the nation has adapted by developing domestic industries and seeking new trade partners.

In response to potential US actions, the Iranian currency reached a record low on Monday, highlighting the pressure on Iran’s economy.

China Criticizes US Sanctions

China urged restraint from American sanctions, which it says could worsen tensions. Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized that sanctions do not resolve conflict and could disrupt global economic stability. China, a major importer of Iranian oil, is concerned about secondary sanctions that might affect its trade.

Israeli and Syrian Diplomacy in Jordan

Following Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory, Israeli and Syrian officials engaged in US-mediated talks in Jordan. The discussions aimed to renew security negotiations and defuse rising tensions. Syria asserted its right to strengthen its military and alliances, while calling for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories.

The airstrike targeted the Abu Duhur air base, reportedly to counter Turkey’s influence in Syria. The meeting did not yield immediate Israeli comments.
