After UFC 329, discussions centered around Conor McGregor’s knee injury and its origins. Questions arose about whether McGregor was injured before the fight with Max Holloway.
This speculation gained momentum when a video circulated on social media. It showed McGregor stumbling as he attempted to remove his shoes after entering the Octagon. Some believed this indicated a pre-existing injury to his right knee.
On Friday, McGregor dispelled these rumors. He addressed fans on the social media platform X and clarified the situation.
“Looked like you were having issues with your knee prior to the fight,” a fan noted.
McGregor replied:
“More nonsense. I had zero issue. The taking off of my shoe at octagon side, a sweaty foot, without a sock on, pulling off the shoe with the ball of my free foot. It was a brief disbalance. If even.”
McGregor’s return fight ended with a TKO just 69 seconds into Round 1. The referee stopped the match when McGregor couldn’t support himself on his right leg. It seemed he injured it early in the bout after a miscalculated leaping roundhouse kick.
McGregor also addressed this incident on Friday.
“A foot too early for sure. Never going to work, I disagree. The eagerness/rush out the gate is what 5 years out of the game will do. Noted and corrected. I’ll get it right. I’m getting closer, that is my mindset,” he explained in response to a fan query regarding the aggressive move after such a long hiatus.
Earlier this week, McGregor announced plans for surgery and intends to return for the final fight on his UFC contract. The former two-division champion expressed his desire for a rematch against Holloway.
