Maryland Police Confront Alleged Carjacking Suspect

New body camera footage reveals a dramatic encounter between Maryland police and an alleged carjacking suspect. The incident unfolded in Glen Burnie on May 7 around 9 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run at North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue.

Authorities discovered that a woman, identified as 28-year-old Jasmin L. Cooper, had collided with another vehicle and then forcibly taken a family member’s car who had come to assist her. Officers later located Cooper in the vehicle on the 8500 block of Severn.

“An alleged carjacking suspect was seen driving toward Maryland police officers, striking an officer and multiple cars before they opened fire.”

Footage shows officers aiming their weapons at Cooper, instructing her to “turn the car off” and “get out of the car.” Despite briefly raising her hands, Cooper did not comply and instead drove off, prompting officers to fire their weapons as she struck an officer and multiple vehicles.

The video highlights the chaotic scene as Cooper attempted to escape, ultimately crashing into another car at Reece Road and Telegraph Road. She then tried to enter a nearby occupied vehicle before officers caught and arrested her.

Captured in handcuffs, the footage also documents officers providing medical assistance to Cooper for wounds sustained during the encounter. Police charged her with carjacking, attempted carjacking, reckless endangerment, and first- and second-degree assault. Both Cooper and the officer who was hit received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
