Kennedy Expressway Exit Closed Due to Retaining Wall Collapse

1 day ago 0

State road officials have closed an exit ramp on the Kennedy Expressway near Jefferson Park after a retaining wall partially collapsed. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced an emergency closure at the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit on Interstate 90. The closure came after a concrete retention wall failed early Saturday morning.

The department has not determined how long the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit will remain shut to traffic. IDOT stated, “The department is inspecting the damage and evaluating the necessary repairs.” They plan to provide additional details regarding repair scope and the duration of any long-term closures once inspections are complete.

IDOT advises commuters to plan for extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the Lawrence Avenue exit remains closed. Drivers are urged to exercise caution when passing through work zones and stay aware of workers and repair equipment activity.
