Marist’s Haven Enselman Surpasses 1,000 Career Assists

Over the weekend, Haven Enselman, a setter from Marist High School, achieved an impressive milestone by surpassing 1,000 career assists. Notably, she accomplished this feat just six matches into her sophomore season.

“It’s a significant accomplishment,” Enselman commented. “Reaching 1,000 has been a goal of mine, but now I aim for 2,000 or 3,000.” By the end of the weekend, her total stood at 1,034 assists.

During their victory at the Mizuno Crimson Classic, Marist’s team dominated Lockport with scores of 25-8 and 25-11. Enselman contributed 25 assists, alongside eight digs and four kills at the event held in Aurora.

Maggie Kurpeikis and Taylor Berg, both committed to play collegiate volleyball, each tallied eight kills. They shared the tournament MVP honors and joined Enselman on the all-tournament team.

Lockport’s Natalie Bochantin, along with Hutsyn Timosciek and Kyla Mitchell, made the all-tournament team. Lockport reached the finals after a tight match with Benet, while Marist overcame Lincoln-Way East.

Enselman’s pursuit of 1,000 assists went largely unnoticed. Marist’s coach, Jordan Vidovic, expressed his admiration, stating, “That is fast.” The 6-foot Enselman is known for her rapid play on the court.

“The way she delivers the ball may not always be visible, but the speed is crucial,” Vidovic remarked. “She’s working hard for the hitters, and they value her efforts.” Teammate Taylor Berg added, “She maintains the tempo and intensity. Without her, we wouldn’t have progressed this far.”

Comparatively, the Illinois High School Association assists record is held by Sarah Kwasigroch with 3,659. At Marist, Molly Murrihy set the record at 3,075 assists. Enselman completed her freshman year with 938 assists. If consistent, she might end her career with 3,752 assists.

Marist’s coach, Vidovic, who set state records during his playing career, intends to challenge Enselman to maximize her potential. “I am not holding back on her,” Vidovic stated.

Enselman appreciates these challenges. “It pushes me to improve as a player and a teammate,” she explained.

She also looks up to Nebraska’s Bergen Reilly, a renowned setter, stating, “She makes complex plays look simple.”
