Lil Durk Acquitted in Murder-for-Hire Case

By September 11, 2026, a federal jury in Los Angeles reached a verdict regarding Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks. The jury found him not guilty in a murder-for-hire plot aimed at another rapper.

Durk faced multiple serious charges, including murder, stalking, and conspiracy. Also implicated in the case were five other individuals connected to his Chicago-based rap group, “Only the Family” or “OTF.” Among these was Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey. While the jury acquitted them on the murder-for-hire charges, Wilson and Lindsey were convicted of stalking and conspiracy related to stalking.

Evidence presented by federal prosecutors implicated Durk in a scheme to target Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, whose legal name is Tyquian Bowman. The shooting incident in 2022 was intended for Rondo, yet resulted in the unfortunate death of his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.

The investigation revealed that the plot against Quando Rondo was allegedly in retaliation for the death of King Von, a fellow OTF rapper, who was killed during a gunfire exchange outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.

During the trial, authorities highlighted that Durk allegedly offered a reward for Rondo’s death. Keith “Flacka” Jones and Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant, both indicted, pleaded guilty to offenses within the case. They provided testimony against Durk and others involved.

Lil Durk’s musical achievements include winning the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with his single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. He has also accumulated three other Grammy nominations. The stakes were high, as a conviction could have led to a life sentence for the rapper.
