SpaceX’s colossal Starship rocket came close to launching on a test flight, but engine issues led to a sudden abort. The engines failed to start, delaying the mission.
SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, is investigating the cause of the problem. They’re planning another attempt to send the Starship on a global test flight soon. Starship stands 407 feet tall and has 33 engines, making it the largest and most powerful rocket globally.
The company broadcasted the event, showing engine ignition three seconds before liftoff from a drone’s viewpoint. However, the engines shut down swiftly, keeping the rocket grounded. The team began defueling the rocket immediately.
“Next launch attempt hopefully in a few days,” Musk announced via X.
Everything appeared favorable for SpaceX, including weather conditions until the engine ignition failure. The Starship carried 20 Starlink satellites intended for communication tests and taking photos during the flight. These satellites were not meant to be retrieved.
NASA relies on Starship for future lunar missions. The agency has contracted SpaceX and Blue Origin for lunar landers. These companies must prepare their landers by next year for Artemis III. This mission aims to rehearse docking in Earth’s orbit. The subsequent mission, Artemis IV, aims to land two astronauts on the moon by 2028.
