According to John Hollinger from The Athletic, Bronny James might be waived and have his $2.2 million salary stretched over time. This could help the Lakers sidestep the luxury-tax line. Still, Hollinger suggests that Jaden Hardy might be more vulnerable. Hardy’s contract stands at $6 million, making him a potential candidate for release.

Aside from Hardy and James, players like Dalton Knecht ($4.2 million) and Adou Thiero ($2.1 million) also present moveable contract options. The Lakers could pursue trades involving these players. However, Hardy’s contract cannot be combined with others in a trade. Failing successful trades, the Lakers may have to release a player outright before the season begins.

Recent chatter indicates Bronny James could be traded, especially as the basketball world watches LeBron James’s potential move in 2026-27. Although rumors suggest Bronny might follow LeBron, Dan Woike from The Athletic counters these claims. He notes that their futures are independent.

Currently, there is no evidence pointing to the Lakers parting with Bronny. Nonetheless, as the regular season approaches, changes could occur. Bronny’s recent performance included averages of 2.9 points, 1.2 assists, and 0.5 steals over 8.9 minutes per game. He also spent time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League.

In contrast, Jaden Hardy showcased averages of 9.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 15.8 minutes. His strength lies in 3-point shooting, boasting a 40% career average, which makes him a potential asset for the second unit alongside Collin Sexton, supporting Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
