Kurt Busch Finds Solace in Racing After Brother Kyle’s Death

NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch recently shared how racing serves as a coping mechanism for the loss of his younger brother, Kyle Busch. Kyle, a renowned NASCAR legend, passed away at the age of 41 due to complications from severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis.

Kurt, while speaking on ‘The Big Weekend Show,’ expressed feeling his brother’s presence when driving. ‘When you get behind the wheel, I feel his presence of… he like sees my mistakes now, like I can’t hide them, but it helps me cope with it,’ he remarked.

The family had revealed that severe pneumonia, which progressed into sepsis, was the cause of Kyle Busch’s untimely death.

Kurt’s comments came after his participation in IndyCar’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix held on a course spanning Pennsylvania, Constitution, and Independence avenues. This event followed the celebration of ‘Kyle Busch Day’ on August 18, honoring Kyle with a nod to his famous car numbers.

Having shared a close relationship with Kyle on and off the track, Kurt stated that racing helps him manage his grief. ‘It just feels like someone stole him, and it’s still unfathomable,’ Kurt conveyed to Fox News.

Kurt acknowledged the difficulty of processing the loss outside of racing. ‘I don’t know really how to cope with it other than getting in the car and going racing,’ he admitted.

This tragic loss was compounded by another NASCAR-related incident when Kurt’s friend Greg Biffle died in a plane crash in December.

Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion, left behind his wife Samantha and their two children. His son Brexton, 11, is expected to continue his father’s legacy in the racing world. Richard Childress Racing has reserved Kyle’s No. 8 for Brexton when he is ready to compete in NASCAR.

Despite the grief, Kurt emphasized the significance of racing for the family. ‘Brexton needs to be out there racing because that’s what Kyle would have wanted us to do,’ he said.

Kurt believes racing provides a positive outlet, helping them stay connected to Kyle’s legacy and find a middle ground amid their high and low moments.
