A teacher from Kentucky’s Graves County Middle School is facing criminal charges after serious allegations of misconduct with a student. Sadie M. Flores, 25, of Mayfield, was arrested and charged with grooming a minor, a Class D felony, under a new Kentucky law effective since July 15.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office reports that Flores is accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. This situation has drawn attention due to the severity of the charge and the newness of the law being applied.
An investigation began after Graves County Schools reported the allegations to the authorities. Law enforcement took prompt action, involving electronic record examination and conducting interviews. Following this process, Flores was interviewed and then arrested on Friday afternoon.
She was initially booked into the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and later transferred to another detention facility outside the county. Sheriff Jon Hayden confirmed that the investigation is still active.
Superintendent Matt Madding emphasized the district’s immediate response upon learning about the allegations. He stated, “District administration was made aware of an allegation involving a teacher at Graves County Middle School. School officials immediately reported this information to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for investigation.” Madding assured that the school prioritizes student safety above all else.
The grooming charge, a result of the recent state law, targets adults suspected of forming inappropriate relationships with minors, often a precursor to abuse. While the investigation progresses, no further details about the alleged relationship or the student’s age have been disclosed.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about student safety and professional conduct in educational environments. It underscores the serious nature of the allegations and the legal framework supporting such charges under the new law.
