Jonathan Taylor Thomas Reunites with ‘Home Improvement’ Co-Stars

Jonathan Taylor Thomas made a brief return to the public eye in a recent reunion photo with fellow ‘Home Improvement’ actors Patricia Richardson and Taran Noah Smith. The photo, shared by Richardson, reignited nostalgia for the cast of the popular sitcom, over 25 years after it concluded.

Richardson captioned the image with the words, “My other boys,” alongside a heart emoji. During the show’s eight-season run, she portrayed Jill Taylor, married to Tim Allen’s character, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor. Thomas and Smith played sons Randy and Mark Taylor. Zachery Ty Bryan played the eldest son, Brad.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas became one of the 1990s’ renowned child stars, first gaining fame as Randy Taylor on the show. He also starred in movies like ‘Tom and Huck’ and ‘Man of the House,’ and lent his voice to young Simba in Disney’s ‘The Lion King.’ Despite his popularity, Thomas stepped back from Hollywood at the height of his fame.

“I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old,” Thomas told People in 2013. “I wanted to go to school, to travel, and have a bit of a break.” He left ‘Home Improvement’ during its final season, with his character’s storyline sending him to Costa Rica.

Though he mostly retreated from acting, Thomas briefly returned from 2013 to 2015, reuniting with Tim Allen on ‘Last Man Standing’ for four episodes, also directing three.

Similarly, Taran Noah Smith moved away from acting after ‘Home Improvement’ concluded in 1999. He ventured into unexpected careers including the founding of a vegan food company, working as an installation artist, and contributing to energy-efficient water purification systems abroad.

Smith faced public and personal challenges over the years. He married at 17 to Heidi Van Pelt, who was 16 years older, though they divorced in 2007. He also had a legal dispute with his parents concerning his $1.5 million trust fund but later reconciled with his mother.

The reunion photo not only drew attention back to Thomas but also celebrated the beloved show’s enduring legacy. The chemistry between Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson was instrumental in securing its place as a ’90s classic. Richardson remarked that Allen deserved more accolades for his acting on the show, telling Fox News Digital, “He had never acted before. He was getting acting lessons on the side.”

Zachery Ty Bryan, who played Brad Taylor, continued acting in series such as ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ ‘Veronica Mars,’ and ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.’ However, he faced legal troubles, receiving a 16-month prison sentence following a DUI conviction in 2026.

Decades on, the recent reunion photo pulled audiences back to the familiar Taylor household, reflecting on a cast with varied journeys since departing from one of television’s notable ’90s sitcoms.
