This was due to the usage of his name, image, and likeness, particularly relating to an issue with his former jersey number. Daniels was not pleased that cornerback DJ Pickett was allowed to wear the No. 5, which he previously donned at LSU, starting in the 2026 college season.
The aftermath of Daniels’ statement about the cease-and-desist letter quickly caught the public’s attention. Social media platforms were flooded with memes and posts mocking the situation. Several organizations, including the New York Mets and StubHub, engaged in the playful mockery. For instance, the Mets tweeted about a game’s outcome in terms of ‘respect for Jayden Daniels,’ while StubHub joked about not offering tickets in groups of five.
Despite the spectacle, Daniels has refrained from further comments about the incident. During a press conference following a practice with the Baltimore Ravens, he simply referred to his Instagram statement, maintaining a calm exterior amid the uproar.
“I posted the statement on Instagram and said everything I needed to say. So, appreciate y’all,” Daniels said, addressing the last question of the press briefing.
The incident, however, has caused some distraction ahead of a new season. Daniels maintains his focus on training camp, expressing gratitude for his time at LSU and hoping for a peaceful resolution. He emphasized that his top concern is the upcoming season with the Commanders.
“I have been locked in on training camp and that’s been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there,” Daniels shared, highlighting his intentions to keep discussions with LSU private.

Previously, injuries limited him to seven games, affecting the Commanders’ performance.
