Iran Warns of More Surprises Amid U.S. Tensions

Iran has announced its readiness to deliver more surprises to the U.S. if American attacks resume. The potential for renewed hostilities looms, even as the U.S. hints at progress towards a peace agreement.

On Monday, President Donald Trump stated he had postponed a planned U.S. attack on Iran. This decision followed discussions with leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, who believed a resolution to the conflict might be within reach.

Iran mentioned that Pakistan, serving as a mediator between Washington and Tehran, conveyed a new peace proposal to U.S. negotiators. Trump later shared with reporters that he previously halted planned strikes to allow for continued negotiations.

The potential resumption of open warfare threatens the fragile truce in place since early April. Though brief exchanges have disrupted the ceasefire period, President Trump recently indicated that the ceasefire was precarious.

Recently, the U.S. launched military strikes in response to Iran’s missile, drone, and small boat attacks on U.S. warships near the Strait of Hormuz. Despite these actions, Iran continues to control the crucial strait, permitting passage only to approved ships since the initial U.S. and Israeli attacks in late February.

This control has left many sailors stranded and caused global fuel price fluctuations. The ongoing conflict has negatively impacted the Trump administration’s approval rating just ahead of the November midterm elections.

On Wednesday, data revealed two Chinese oil tankers had left the strait. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance mentioned that negotiations were progressing but highlighted some ambiguities in the U.S. negotiating position.

Despite talks, Vance emphasized that the U.S. remains prepared to resume military action against Iran. Trump claimed Iran is eager for a deal but noted discrepancies between written agreements and negotiation terms.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of many new surprises in a potential return to war. Iran is also ready to address any military aggression, according to top diplomat Kazem Gharibabadi.

The latest proposal from Tehran involves recognizing Iran’s right to enrich uranium. It also demands lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports and offering compensation for U.S. strikes.

If accepted, this proposal would end Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon and remove sanctions on Tehran. Nevertheless, Trump has dismissed several deal versions, reiterating opposition to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

Although Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, international experts suggest it enriches uranium close to weapons-grade levels, beyond civilian needs.
