Inflation and Energy Costs on the Rise

18 minutes ago 0

Energy Cost Increases

The personal consumption expenditures price index, used by the Federal Reserve to measure inflation, showed a 0.5 percent rise in September. This index increased by 3.6 percent compared to September 2025. Notably, gasoline and other energy prices surged by 9.2 percent from August to September. This followed a 4.4 percent rise from July to August.

Energy prices have increased in six out of the nine months this year. The ongoing conflict involving Iran has contributed to oil price fluctuations, mainly due to Iran’s shipping restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Stable Food Prices

Food and beverage costs remained steady for the second consecutive month. Since the beginning of 2025, these prices have not seen a month-over-month increase exceeding 0.5 percent.

Impact on Midterm Elections

Rising energy costs have made affordability a critical concern in the 2026 midterm elections. However, voters are concerned about different aspects of their bills. A recent poll identified the economy, healthcare, and the war involving Iran as top voter concerns for the upcoming elections.
