Indianapolis Colts Face Setback as Alec Pierce Sidelined

8 minutes ago 0

The Indianapolis Colts are going into Week 3 still in search of their first win of the season. They have faced defeats against the Baltimore Ravens and more recently the Kansas City Chiefs. The game against the Chiefs was particularly challenging. The Colts suffered a close loss in overtime and lost wide receiver Alec Pierce due to a left heel injury.

This injury is significant as Pierce had surgery on the same heel during the offseason. Missing much of the training camp due to this injury was already a setback for him. Despite his absence, the Colts managed to put up a strong fight; however, they may have to cope without him for a while.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed on Monday that Pierce is opting for rehabilitation instead of surgery. This means he will be out for several weeks. If his recovery goes well, he might return midseason. However, there is a possibility that the Colts will place him on injured reserve. The decision on surgery will depend on his recovery progress.

“It’s a significant blow for Alec Pierce, especially after signing a four-year, $114 million extension,” noted Rapoport.

Pierce was set to lead as the Colts’ primary wide receiver following the departure of Michael Pittman Jr. Last season, he achieved 47 catches for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. His average of 21.3 yards per catch was remarkable, leading the team in receiving yards.

The expectation was that Pierce would build on these achievements this year. With his potential absence, players like tight end Tyler Warren, and receivers Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, and newcomer Darius Slayton are likely to receive more passes. The Colts must adjust to this setback as they aim to turn their season around.
