Indiana Fever Secure Win Over New York Liberty

The Indiana Fever claimed a 106-92 victory over the New York Liberty, propelled by standout performances from Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark. On Tuesday night, Mitchell registered 28 points, 20 of which were scored in the first half. Clark contributed a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists.

Indiana showcased impressive form by winning seven of their last nine games. The team’s success followed a fiery pregame speech from coach Stephanie White, who addressed distractions affecting the WNBA. The Fever players seemed energized by her words, achieving a remarkable shooting performance.

The team shot 59% from the field and 79% from beyond the arc during a commanding first half, resulting in a 64-46 lead at halftime. Their opponent, New York, which had an impressive 8-1 record since a 20-point loss to Indiana in July, struggled to keep pace this time.

Mitchell was highly efficient, converting 11 of 16 shots. Alongside Clark and Sophie Cunningham, she made four 3-pointers, contributing to the Fever’s 16 out of 25 successful attempts. Cunningham scored 12 points while Aliyah Boston added 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

For the Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 19 points with Jonquel Jones finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana intensified their lead with a 15-7 run at the end of the second quarter, stretching it to 54-37.

Despite their momentum slowing in the third quarter, which allowed New York to trim the gap to 66-57, the Fever regained control. Mitchell secured a crucial three-point play, and Cunningham’s 3-pointer in the final minute extended Indiana’s advantage to 87-67.

Indiana maintained their composure throughout the game, ensuring the Liberty couldn’t close the gap again.
