Incident Involving Armed Assailant at Ohio’s Canfield Fair

An armed individual disrupted a campaign event at the Canfield Fair in Ohio. This fair, one of the state’s largest, was chosen by Amy Acton, a Democratic candidate for governor, for a campaign stop. The suspect, identified as Patrick Havas, 38, reportedly charged towards Acton.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Havas had a Taser and two pistols. He is currently detained at the Mahoning County Jail on charges including disorderly conduct and assault. Reports indicate that Havas is a registered Republican and a licensed nurse from Canfield, Ohio. His last voting record was from 2024.

The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office stated that Havas pushed through the crowd while recording the incident on his phone.

Acton’s security, comprised of Highway Patrol troopers, successfully detained the suspect. According to Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene, during the rush, Havas allegedly knocked over two elderly individuals using mobility scooters. The sheriff confirmed that although Havas possessed two handguns and brass knuckles, no weapons were unholstered during the confrontation. Further investigation is ongoing with plans to consult the County Prosecutor for additional charges.

Beyond assessing physical threats, the state patrol will explore any potential threat assessment as part of their investigation.

Acton’s communications director, Addie Bullock, expressed gratitude for the quick response of law enforcement and confirmed that several people sustained injuries from the incident. Bullock emphasized that Acton remains committed to opposing division and hostility.
