Illinois Man Charged with Killing and Dismembering Half-Brother

4 weeks ago 0

An Illinois man has been charged with fatally stabbing his half-brother, followed by dismembering and disposing of the body with the help of the victim’s wife, authorities reported.

James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, face charges of concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body for the death of Dalewayne Turner, 38, according to the Illinois State Police. On June 28, boaters discovered part of a human arm in Lake Mattoon, leading investigators to find additional remains.

These remains later identified as Dalewayne Turner matched the tattoos on the arm. Both Adams and Robin Turner quickly became suspects in the case and were detained.

According to court documents, Adams confessed to stabbing his half-brother, claiming self-defense, while Robin Turner did not notify authorities following the incident. She described the argument in the living room where Adams allegedly stabbed her husband.

The one thing I will say is that I did it, but I did it out of self-defense. I will tell you guys that, Adams stated, according to the documents.

The suspects allegedly took extensive measures to conceal the crime. They used bleach to clean and mask odors, repainted parts of the house, removed and burned wood paneling in a fire pit, and disposed of rugs.

Parts of Dalewayne Turner’s dismembered body were found in a freezer by investigators. On searching the home, investigators found a downstairs freezer with what appeared to be a bloodstain from a drain hole. They opened it to find a torso, neck, and head but no limbs.

The remains, sealed in trash bags weighted with duct tape, were dumped in Lake Mattoon. However, a torn bag allowed a tattooed arm to rise to the surface. Subsequent searches uncovered more weighted bags with human remains in the lake.

The suspects are scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday. A GoFundMe has raised over $1,300 to cover funeral expenses, with a message from the family expressing their heartbreak over Dalewayne E. Turner’s tragic death.
