Armed Bystander’s Brave Intervention

An armed bystander has been recognized for his heroic actions during a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in southern Idaho. Law enforcement officials confirm that his intervention diverted the gunman and saved lives.

Jordan Salinas, a 35-year-old healthcare worker, was identified as the individual who fired at the gunman. According to the Idaho Statesman, Salinas arrived at the restaurant’s parking lot with his girlfriend and noticed chaos unfolding as people fled through the doors. He heard gunfire and ran toward the sound, drawing his semiautomatic pistol.

Salinas confronted the gunman, who was firing at vehicles near the drive-thru window. Without any fear, Salinas engaged and fired his weapon. “There’s a task that needs to be done, and we’re the ones who need to do it,” he told the newspaper.

Shooting Casualties and Response

The incident resulted in four deaths, including the gunman, and seven others injured. Among the injured, two were treated at a hospital and released, three were stable, and two were in critical condition at the time of the report.

The gunman, Chad Williams, age 24, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities mentioned that an unidentified off-duty state trooper also exchanged gunfire with Williams, contributing to driving the suspect into cover.

Official Statements and Investigation

At a press conference, Twin Falls County Sheriff Jack Johnson expressed gratitude to the off-duty trooper and the bystander. “These people are true heroes in our community, and their actions diverted the shooter, and no doubt saved many lives,” Johnson said.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks also commended their efforts, stating that their heroism likely limited further casualties.

Investigators are working to understand Williams’ motives. His family is cooperating fully with the investigation. Authorities urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact the police.

Salinas’ Preparation and Reflection

Salinas revealed to the Statesman that he had started training seriously after a past incident in Boise. Concerned about soft-target attacks, he practiced shooting regularly to protect his wheelchair-bound brother.

During the event, Salinas acted for several minutes before standing down as police arrived. He expressed gratitude for the support received and wrote on Facebook that he would eventually share more details about the incident.

He extended his condolences to the victims and their families.

In-N-Out Burger Employee Among Victims

Among those killed was an In-N-Out employee. Lynsi Snyder, the chain’s owner, conveyed her heartbreak in a statement. “We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,” Snyder wrote, emphasizing the loss suffered by the community.

Snyder mentioned that the company would support affected families and employees during their grieving period.

Denny Warnick, the chain’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed sorrow and confirmed collaboration with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.

The Twin Falls location had opened on July 24, coinciding with the chain’s expansion in Idaho.
