The San Francisco Giants have announced the suspension of payment to outfielder Harrison Bader following a scooter accident that worsened his foot injury. Bader, who has been sidelined since late May due to plantar fasciitis, faced a setback after the accident in San Francisco.
The Giants’ President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey, stated, “Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field.” Posey also mentioned an ongoing investigation into the accident’s circumstances.
Bader, under a two-year contract worth $20.5 million with the Giants, has a $4.5 million base salary for the current season and is owed $1.42 million for the remainder. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday in San Francisco’s Marina District, where Bader was involved in a vehicle collision while riding his scooter. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Before his injury, the 32-year-old Bader hit .170 with five home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .557 OPS in 30 games. Notably, this is not Bader’s first scooter accident. In 2014, while attending college in Florida, he was suspended following a similar incident that involved a collision with a curb and a truck.
