Harrison Bader Faces Season-Ending Injury and Salary Suspension

San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader’s late-night scooter accident has ended his season and led to the suspension of his salary. The team’s president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, confirmed this on Friday as the team investigates the incident’s details.

“Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field,” Posey stated, as reported by MLB.com.

The accident occurred when Bader’s scooter collided with a San Francisco Fire Department truck at around 2 a.m. on Sunday. His left foot, already afflicted with plantar fasciitis, was run over during the crash. Consequently, he will not return for the rest of the 2026 season.

Bader had signed a two-year, $20.5 million contract in the past offseason. Despite the financial implications, the Giants have decided not to pay him until he can resume playing for the team.

This incident marks Bader’s second scooter-related mishap. In 2014, while playing for Florida, he crashed a scooter into a parked truck and faced a 19-game suspension.

Bader has built a reputation for his defensive skills in center field over his decade-long MLB career. Initially playing with the St. Louis Cardinals, he was later traded to the New York Yankees. Over the last few seasons, he has played for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and currently, the Giants. His career stats include a .244 batting average, 93 home runs, and 336 RBIs. This season with the Giants, he hit .170 with five home runs in 39 games.
