Grapes on the Green: An Annual Tradition in Northbrook

2 weeks ago 0

Grapes on the Green has become a cherished annual event for Northbrook residents, marking its fourth year as an adults-only wine tasting gathering. Scheduled for June 20, the event will take place at Village Green Park, with sponsorship from the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District.

Event Details

The festivities will run from 4 to 8 p.m., providing attendees with a blend of wine tastings, games, light refreshments, and live music. Peter Warren, a skilled guitarist and vocalist, will entertain with a mix of jazz, bossa nova, instrumentals, and contemporary tunes.

The event was initiated to fulfill the community’s interest in adults-only occasions, according to Northbrook Park District Board President Mike Goodman. “It’s heartening to witness such enthusiastic responses annually,” Goodman expressed.

Northbrook President Kathryn Ciesla highlighted how the event showcases the village’s vibrant spirit, especially fitting as Northbrook celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

Ticket Information

Previous events have drawn hundreds to the downtown park at Shermer and Meadow Roads. Tasting tickets are priced at $49, offering 12 one-ounce samples of wine, curated by Chicago Wine, a respected family-owned store. The event package includes a tote bag with a signature wine glass featuring the anniversary logo and a snack box with chocolate, crackers, dried fruit, and nuts.

Mike Widmaier, co-owner of Chicago Wine, has a wealth of industry experience and aims to offer a variety of wines from around the globe. This year’s selection includes a diverse range such as 2021 Torres ‘Gran Coronas’ Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from Spain and 2025 La Croix Rose from Provence, France, plus items like the Mirabelle Brut Rose from California.

Widmaier aims to cater to varied tastes, ensuring valuable offerings. “Our lineup consistently impresses our customers with its value,” he noted.

Non-tasting tickets, priced at $30, allow access to featured items for those choosing not to drink. Eligibility is restricted to adults over 21, with rules prohibiting infants, children, pets, or outside beverages. Limited seating prompts attendees to bring personal chairs or blankets.
