German Authorities Issue Wanted Notice for Suspect in Berlin Van Ramming Incident

Authorities in Berlin have issued a wanted notice for a suspect after a van ramming incident near Berlin’s Pride festival resulted in one death and injuries to at least 16 others. The suspect, identified as Abdul B., is a 21-year-old who is believed to have used a vehicle to harm several people late Saturday evening.

Police and prosecutors have asked for public assistance in locating Abdul B. They advised the public to avoid direct contact with the suspect as he might be armed and dangerous. It has been noted that several people were also allegedly stabbed in the incident.

According to police spokesperson Florian Nath, the suspect is known to authorities due to his connections with Islamic groups in Berlin. However, investigators currently do not have information regarding his specific motives.

The van reportedly drove into Tiergarten park at around 10 p.m., hitting several individuals before it collided with a tree. The incident occurred near the closing party of the Pride festival, known as Christopher Street Day, which was ongoing at the time after a day-long parade through downtown Berlin.

The attack resulted in the death of a woman, and Berlin’s fire service reported that three people sustained life-threatening injuries, eight were seriously injured, and five suffered minor injuries. The Pride event situated beside the Brandenburg Gate was canceled by 10:15 p.m., and the performance by a band was halted. Attendees were urged to evacuate and avoid the park area.

The German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt expressed shock, describing the attack as cowardly and abhorrent, targeting peaceful celebrators. The festival in Berlin had attracted hundreds of thousands of participants, marking one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ celebrations.
