A former television news anchor from St. Louis, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, has been sentenced to life in prison. She fatally stabbed her mother last Halloween in Kansas. The sentence allows her eligibility for parole after 25 years, as reported by a Sedgwick County District Court judge, via KWCH.
Mock reached a plea deal in the case, where she faced charges of first-degree murder. On the morning of October 31, 2025, authorities found Anita Avers, aged 80, with numerous stab wounds in her Wichita home. She shared this home with Mock and Mock’s stepfather.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made statements indicating she believed her mother was the devil. She claimed she killed her mother to “save herself”. Mock’s stepfather informed KAKE-TV that Mock was diagnosed with mental illness, experiencing delusions and depression. It was suggested she might have bipolar disorder, which was later thought to be schizoaffective disorder.
Despite these claims, a judge ruled Mock competent to stand trial in July. In August, she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Mock was born in 2025, seen in custody photos at the Sedgwick County Jail for first-degree murder charges.
Before these events, Mock worked in software sales. Her LinkedIn profile shows she worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. From 2007 to 2011, she was a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City.
