Nicole Curtis, well-known for her work on HGTV’s Rehab Addict, is now embroiled in legal trouble. The City of Detroit has filed a lawsuit against Curtis and her company, Detroit Renovations LLC. This action stems from allegations that Curtis did not properly maintain and restore a deteriorating property in Detroit.
Legal Issues Over Property
The lawsuit claims that the property has remained a public nuisance. Curtis and her company had been cited multiple times for violations even after a 2021 court order demanded renovations to the home. The order came after Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny labeled the 1921 American foursquare-style house as a threat to the community. Despite this, the city argues that the necessary repairs and compliance have not been made.

Online Controversy
Beyond the legal challenges, Curtis faces backlash from a video where she used a racial slur on set. This led HGTV to cancel Rehab Addict, and the series has been removed from all platforms. The video, released by Radar Online, shows Curtis using the n-word during a lapse during filming. After realizing her mistake, she asked for the footage to be deleted.
HGTV issued a statement expressing disappointment with the language used, stating it does not reflect the values of the network. Curtis issued an apology, expressing regret for her comments.
Explaining Incident
Curtis addressed the incident publicly on The Breakfast Club. During the conversation with hosts Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy, she explained that she often uses unique phrases, including “fart digger” and “fart knocker,” due to restrictions on swearing while filming. Curtis expressed a willingness to have an open dialogue about her language use.
