Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg compared President Donald Trump’s recent actions with Iran to the decisive military operations that helped resolve the Vietnam War. On ‘Hannity,’ he emphasized Trump’s use of ‘kinetic strikes’ and firm threats that effectively brought Iran back to the negotiation table.
‘The bombing and the kinetic strikes brought the Iranians to the table. This isn’t the first time such tactics have been employed,’ Kellogg stated. He highlighted the comparison to President Richard Nixon’s ‘Linebacker II’ bombing campaign in 1972, which was crucial in overcoming a stalemate in Vietnam peace talks.
The Linebacker II operation aimed to force North Vietnam into serious negotiations, involving nearly two weeks of B-52 bombings over Hanoi and Haiphong. This historical operation demonstrated how military pressure can lead to diplomatic progress.
Earlier in the week, the U.S. executed attacks in response to Iran’s downing of an American Apache helicopter. Subsequently, Trump canceled additional strikes, mentioning strides toward a potential peace agreement.
Kellogg noted the strategy with Iran resembles that of the Nixon-era, showcasing Trump’s determination to reach a resolution. Trump’s aim is to dismantle Tehran’s nuclear arsenals, which have escalated in enrichment levels beyond peaceful purposes, according to Kellogg.
‘It’s essential to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as it will affect Middle Eastern dynamics for generations,’ he warned. Expressing surprise at the lack of awareness among Americans, Kellogg stressed the importance of establishing lasting peace for future generations.
In recent updates, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif indicated that a U.S.-Iran peace deal might conclude within 24 hours. Pakistan has been instrumental as a mediator in these negotiations.
‘We’re closer to a peace deal than ever. Pakistan is ready for the deal’s electronic signing, with further talks slated for next week,’ Sharif shared. He acknowledged the efforts of both the U.S. and Iran in the negotiation process and expressed optimism for the impending peace deal’s impact on long-term stability.
