Demetrius Byrd, a former LSU wide receiver, was recently detained following an incident on a Miami bus. He reportedly had an intense confrontation with another passenger and brandished a blade during the altercation.
According to the New York Post, Byrd allegedly asked the passenger, ‘Who wants to die?’ This led to his arrest on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Byrd is currently held on a $5,000 bond. Additionally, records indicate he has an outstanding warrant for domestic violence.
Byrd’s football career highlights include a memorable game-winning catch against Auburn in 2007. That crucial play led LSU to victory, ultimately contributing to their national championship win that year. Despite being a promising NFL prospect, Byrd was hindered by severe injuries from a car accident just days before the NFL draft. This resulted in his fall to the seventh round, where the San Diego Chargers selected him, although he never played a game in the NFL.
During his tenure with the LSU Tigers, Byrd participated in 27 games and accumulated 72 catches for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns. His athletic achievements are a stark contrast to his current legal troubles.
