A 76-year-old man from Florida, Charles Ducking, faces multiple charges following a traffic stop where he admitted to drinking and using cocaine. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 27 in Waverly.
Authorities from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ducking was pulled over for swerving. During the stop, deputies detected alcohol on his breath and noted signs of impairment such as slurred speech and watery eyes. Ducking revealed that his license was suspended because of a previous DUI arrest.
Deputies also discovered a silver thermal cup filled with rum, which Ducking admitted to drinking. Furthermore, a search of his vehicle uncovered a container with cocaine. Ducking confessed to using the substance shortly before the traffic stop.
Field sobriety tests indicated Ducking’s impairment, and breath tests showed his blood alcohol concentrations were .094 and .095, surpassing Florida’s legal limit of .08. Previous DUI arrest records date back to May, indicating a pattern of behavior.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed concerns about Ducking’s repeated offenses and stressed the dangers of impaired driving. He commended his deputies for their efforts in identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.
Ducking was charged with several offenses, including DUI, possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Past records show nine arrests in Polk County since 2001, with multiple DUIs among them.
