Sixteen years after the biographical drama “The Social Network,” a new film titled “The Social Reckoning” promises to revisit Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s story. This upcoming drama, directed by Aaron Sorkin, released its first look on Wednesday and has captured attention with an intriguing portrayal.
The film boasts a standout cast including Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White and Oscar winner Mikey Madison. Jeremy Strong takes on the role of Mark Zuckerberg, succeeding Jesse Eisenberg from “The Social Network.”
The new film shifts its focus from the creation of Facebook to the 2021 whistleblowing case involving the company. Mikey Madison plays engineer Frances Haugen, known for leaking numerous confidential Facebook documents to the Wall Street Journal in 2021. Other notable cast members include Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Bill Burr.
Set for release on October 9, “The Social Reckoning” is produced by Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, and The Gotham Group in association with Escape Artists. Sony Pictures Releasing is responsible for distribution.
Fans have flocked to social media to discuss the film’s impressive cast. One person highlighted the “absurdly stacked” lineup for a tech drama, while another remarked on the potential intensity and grounding provided by Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison’s involvement.
Social media users also praised Strong’s riveting portrayal of Zuckerberg. A notable line from the film, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore Charlie!” emphasizes Facebook’s evolution from its early days to a platform entwined with complex issues.
