Electoral Rise of Far-Right Party in Germany Raises Concerns

2 weeks ago 0

The Alternative for Germany (AfD), a far-right party, achieved a significant milestone by winning a state election in Saxony-Anhalt. This marks the first such victory for a far-right party in Germany since World War II, noted one Jewish group.

The electoral success of the AfD has caught the attention of various officials, including Amichai Chikli, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism. While some Israeli officials express unease about the party’s rise, others remain silent about the development. This reflects the complex dynamics between the Israeli government and right-wing parties in Europe.

Israeli officials have engaged with various right-wing parties in Europe, forming alliances and seeking cooperation on different issues. However, Germany and Austria have historically remained exceptions to this trend due to their past associations.
