Dramatic Pool Rescues: Heroic Actions and Arrests

ICE Law Enforcement Officer Gregory Simmons recently recounted a dramatic incident in Pasco County, Florida, where he saved a 6-year-old child from drowning. Simmons acted swiftly by performing CPR on the unconscious child, illustrating the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers, whether on duty or not.

In a related incident, authorities in Tennessee arrested Mikaylee Rae Beirne, 31, following an alleged attempt to drown one of her children in a backyard swimming pool. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Beirne faces charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect following the July 15 event.

“The actions of Officer Simmons highlight the critical and life-saving roles officers play in our communities,” said an observer familiar with the Florida rescue.

Reports from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office detailed that deputies responded to a disturbance at a home on Cochran Road at around 5 p.m. Witnesses indicated Beirne was in the pool with several children while another adult was inside.

Investigators revealed that one child informed an adult inside the home of Beirne’s actions, prompting the adult to intervene. Despite demands to stop, Beirne allegedly continued to force the child underwater. The adult managed to pull Beirne away and rescue the child. Another adult arrived at the scene and briefly engaged with Beirne before authorities were called.

Emergency personnel assessed the child, noting minor injuries and bruises. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Beirne’s arrest later following her departure from the scene. She is currently held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
