Detention of Researcher Highlights Visa Crackdown

2 days ago 0

Johns Hopkins health researcher Fatima Ameaka’s detention comes amid the Trump administration’s focus on visa violations to boost deportations. On Tuesday, Ameaka was detained at Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport as she attempted to board a domestic flight.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Ameaka remained in the United States beyond the duration permitted by her visa. Officials stated this constituted a violation of U.S. immigration laws.

Ameaka, who is affiliated with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, represents a growing number of foreign nationals facing scrutiny under current immigration policies.
