Dense Fog Affects Navy Pier’s Fireworks Display for July Fourth Celebration

A thick fog enveloped Navy Pier’s Fourth of July fireworks display on Saturday night. Despite being advertised as the largest and longest in the pier’s history marking America’s 250th anniversary, the fog obscured the show. Spectators could only see colored lights glowing through the mist.

The area was covered with rainy weather, and a severe thunderstorm warning was present in Cook County until 7 p.m. Despite these conditions, the fireworks proceeded as planned.

Navy Pier released a statement on social media early Sunday morning addressing the situation. They expressed disappointment regarding how the fog affected the visibility of the Independence Day Fireworks and acknowledged the impact on guests’ experiences.

Navy Pier plans to continue offering free fireworks shows on Wednesday and Saturday nights through Labor Day. Moreover, as a gesture to visitors, the pier will provide free rides on the Centennial Wheel on Wednesday nights starting at 6 p.m., until Labor Day.
