Shooting Incident on Detroit’s West Side
Three people were killed and four others were injured in a shooting early Sunday at an after-hours venue in Detroit’s west side. Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison stated that officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert shortly after 7:20 a.m. local time. They found three men with fatal gunshot wounds. Four additional victims, including two men and two women, were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Bettison assured, “We will work this around the clock relentlessly to bring the perpetrator to justice,” during a news conference held at the scene. Mayor Mary Sheffield, City Council President James Tate, and other community leaders were present. Sheffield described the shooting as a “senseless act of violence” and committed to cracking down on illegal after-hours operations.

This incident is part of a continuing series of mass shootings in Detroit. According to Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which defines a mass shooting as an event with four or more people shot, Detroit has experienced three other mass shooting events since the start of 2026. These include a deadly February shooting on Sherwood Street, a July shooting on Plymouth Road, and an August shooting on Haverhill Street.
Chief Bettison emphasized the broader impact of gun violence beyond just the victims, committing to identifying those responsible and supporting affected families. Sheffield called for community cooperation and promised “robust services” for those impacted.
Details About the Victims
The three people killed were adult males, likely around 30 years old. Their identities remain undisclosed pending notification of their families. The surviving victims, including two men and two women, ranged in age from their 20s to 30s.
Location and Ongoing Investigation
Police identified the location as a known “after-hours” venue that had received seven calls for service since the beginning of the year. Bettison compared the scene to a strip club, explaining that another investigation involving the location is currently underway.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, as they continue to review evidence and determine the circumstances of the shooting. Bettison promised, “We will work this around the clock relentlessly to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
