Antonio Banks Ignites Marian Catholic with Electrifying Performance

Antonio Banks, a senior standout for Marian Catholic, is known for his dynamic playmaking ability. Whether turning brief passes into long touchdowns or executing explosive rushes, Banks consistently exhibits relentless energy. Reflecting upon his motivation, Banks shared, “I always want to give my teammates, especially the seniors, opportunities to play in new games and on bigger stages.” His dedication to the team was evident in their recent matchup, where he contributed significantly in pursuit of their first playoff berth since 2019.

Banks recorded 13 catches for 226 yards, scoring two touchdowns. Despite his efforts, Marian Catholic fell short in a 30-21 loss against St. Viator at Forest View Stadium, Arlington Heights. Banks also accumulated 46 rushing yards on 13 carries, breaking a program record for single-game receiving yards.

Freshman quarterback Caleb Wilson supported Banks’ remarkable performance, completing 21 of 36 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns. These accomplishments established new program records for single-game passing yards. Wilson frequently relied on Banks, stating, “Every time when nothing’s open, I’ll see No. 6’s hands in the air and dump it off to him.” Jax Baker led St. Viator with two touchdowns as they swiftly gained a 16-0 lead within the first eight minutes. The Lions maintained a 23-7 advantage by the end of the first half, until Wilson’s deep ball reached Banks for a 70-yard touchdown catch as the half concluded.

Banks described his timely play as pivotal: “I saw open space, ran to it, and made the catch.” His speed and astute awareness energized Marian Catholic’s efforts, further intensified by his 55-yard touchdown reception and several defensive tackles. Coach Nick Lopez praised Banks’ multifaceted contributions, noting his infectious energy on the field.

Moving forward, Marian Catholic anticipates tough matchups against Nazareth and Providence, with a critical game against Leo looming.
